Olivia Monk, 85

Olivia H. Monk, 85, of New Haven, departed this life September 13, 2012.

She was the widow of Conley F. Monk, Sr.
Born in Halifax, NC, September 23, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry Hunter and Morris and Annie Bell Anthony.
Mrs. Monk was employed for numerous years at Yale-New Haven Hospital as an Operating Room Technician. She was also a longtime member of Thomas Chapel Church.
She is survived by sons, Conley F. Monk, Jr. (Doris) and Garry C. Monk, Sr. (Lucia); daughters, Edith Pue (Pervis), Olivia Henderson, Jacqueline Roberts (Clarence), Pamela Kelley (Larry), Marcella Flake (Dudley), and Labonita Smith; a brother, Fred Anthony; a sister, Patsy Herring; 33 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Croney T. Monk, Sr.; brothers, Quelie Hunter and Edward Hunter, Sr.; sisters, Odalia Perry, Carrie Bell Anthony, and Helen Knight; and two grandchildren, Willie Towns, Jr. and Larry S. Kelley, Jr.
A celebration of Mrs. Monk’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, September 20, 2012, at 7:00 P.M. at Gateway Christian Fellowship, 129 Bull Hill Lane, West Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in North Carolina. Online guestbook available at www.curvinkcouncil.com
