Ruth L. Ledbetter, 95

Ruth L. Ledbetter, 95, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on Sept. 19, 2017.

She was the widow of Terrell F. Ledbetter, Sr. Ruth was born in Durham, NC on Dec. 18, 1921, the daughter of the late David Jesse James and Annie Freeman. She was employed at Yale University. She was a long time member of Bethel AME Church as well as a member of the gospel choir.

Ruth leaves to cherish her loving and lasting memories, daughters, Dorothy (Eugene) Wells, Minister Geraldine Cox, of New Haven; son Kenneth (Mary) Ledbetter also of New Haven; 24 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by sons, Terrell (Suge) and Gerald of New Haven, James (Jimmy) of New York; daughter, Paula of New Haven; sister Lillie Belle; and brothers, Burley and Paul, all of North Carolina.

A celebration of her life will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe St., New Haven, CT 06511 with calling hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
