Samuel Allen

Samuel Allen, 87, of New Haven went into eternal rest on Feb. 3.

Husband of Rachel Allen and born to the late Solomon and Bertha Allen on May 2, 1923. He was the Grand Master of the United Masonic and Deacon at First Calvary Baptist Church in New Haven.

Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Samuel (Essie) Allen Jr. of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Alfonzo Allen of District Heights, Md., Claude (Hattie) Allen of Clayton, N.C., and Jonathan and Dawayne Allen, both of New Haven; daughters, Joyce Allen of Capitol Heights, Md., Angela (Pete) Brockington Jenkins of New Haven, and Taylor Allen of New Haven; brothers Frank Allen of Fayetteville, N.C., James McCoy of Baltimore, Md., and Joseph Jackson of New Haven; sisters Sarah Rorie of District Heights, Md., Louise Kirk of Washington, DC, Alberta Carmichael of Norfolk, Va., and Francis McLauren of Fayetteville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and close friends Minister Minie Clayton, Gloria McCurdy and Helen Adams. Samuel was predeceased by his brothers, George and Dessie Allen.

A celebration of his life will take place on Feb. 9 at Pitts Chapel UFWB, 64 Brewster Street, New Haven. Viewing from 9 – 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Middletown State Veterans Cemetery. Service by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel Street, New Haven.
