New Haven’s youth education and training nonprofit LEAP hit the MacKenzie Scott jackpot.
The philanthropist’s Yield Giving is donating $2 million to the Jefferson Street-based organization. The gift is one of 361 $1 million and $2 million grants Yield Giving announced on Wednesday.
“This gift will be used to advance our mission of empowering and guiding the next generation of New Haven youth toward a brighter future,” LEAP stated in announcing the grant.

nah - give me 10 more billionaires that advance society by bringing us to space (doing it better than NASA), develop electric transport technology (better than big business) and provide social media free of left wing bias (better than the meta, alphabet, and others that lied to us during COVID)
Oh please, theyre just going to inner space, and their rockets keep blowing up and even NASA is only going to the moon again, which isnt habitable. Its a huge waste of money with very little new knowledge. The robots, satellites and probes NASA sends to other planets and deep into space are giving us more valuable info with scientists analyzing the data that is way more important than the billionaires very expensive novelty ride with rich civilians to the edge of our atmosphere of our planet.
And social media should be fact checked, with hate speech and deliberate disinformation/misinformation should be fact checked, and threats and intimidation and exploitation should be removed, as well as bots and algorithms that were made to manipulate us. Theres a way to balance allowing free speech from individual humans while fact checking and removing threats and keeping AI and bots and foreign government adversaries manipulating us in check.
Better electric technology and more green technology for energy I could get on board with, because we need to save our planet as its the only one we can survive on, that we know of right now or could get to in our universe, and we are killing it with pollution and deforestation.
We should concentrate on making our world a better place for us all to live on, in all aspects of our lives. That is a worthy way to spend millions and billions of dollars.
The posture that space exploration is wasted effort is very sad. There is certainly a lot of "i got mine - who cares about the future" thinking but this country and this society is great because of those that have had the exploring mindset.
I completely agree that manipulative social media should be curtailed. Like facebook for killing postings that questioned the government's COVID doctrine. 'of course, we don't need masks, then 'of course, we do need masks'. Then, 'we must all take the vaccine to defeat the virus', then 'of course, we know the vaccine just stops transmission', to 'well, we never expected the vaccine to stop transmission'. Og
Space exploration by robots and probes and other technology to the planets we have not explored yet and the farthest edges of the universe, with scientists studying the data they send back, is a very worthy endeavor. The James Webb Space Telescope is sending us back awesome information that we never imagined before.
Taking an expensive novelty ride to the outer edges of our planets atmosphere and revisiting the moon is not.

MacKenzie Scott is making a huge difference in our country, giving away the majority of her fortune to worthy non-profits like LEAP across this land that often operate on shoestrings budgets and provide services to people in need.
Thank you to MacKenzie Scott, and heads up to other billionaires, instead of building spaceships, build our country and help the volunteers and organizations that are making our country a better place for us all.
