The Branford girls soccer team suffered a 3 – 0 loss to their old nemesis, the Guilford Indians on Monday at the James L. McVeigh Athletic Complex. Their loss to Guilford was their second this year; they lost to the Indians in September by a 3 – 1 score.
After a scoreless first half, Guilford opened the scoring in the second half when Emma Rusconi (pictured) scored at 44:16. After going back and forth for the next 10 minutes Andrea Basilicato scored on an assist from Allison Stephens at 53:57 to make it 2 – 0.
Julia Carr (pictured) put the frosting on the cake when she scored the final goal at 67:52.

Guilford had 14 shots on goal for the game and Branford had 9. Guilford goalie Emma Stephens had 7 saves and Branford’s goalie Jenna Vitali had 11.
The Guilford win brings the Indians record to 9 – 2 while the Lady Hornets fell to 4 – 8. The teams played for both the SCC title and the Class M State Championship last fall with Guilford winning both games.
The club has two more home games this week, Wednesday against new league member Lauralton Hall and on Friday against North Haven. Here are the Branford girls leaving after the game.

Thank you for covering our strong BHS soccer programs.
The Girls team won both of the next two games mentioned in
your article, and now have won their Oronoque Division of
the SCC for the third year in a row. So they have qualified
for the SCC tournament -- which they won the year before last.
FYI, it was the Class L state title game in which they played
their nemeses from Guilford last November.
Let's wish our Lady Hornets success in their final two
regular season games, including Senior Night
[home in Branford, 10/22 @ 6:30 pm versus Hand (Madison)].
Join us and cheer the team on to victory!
Then more success in post-season tourney play ....
