Tuesday offers local people a seasonal alternative to the present-buying orgy.
It’s called “Giving Tuesday,” or more precisely #GivingTuesday, an international event. It offers a chance for people who view the holidays as about more than spending money to acquire commodities to spend money to help people as well.
The local United Way made a pitch to have people donate to the agency to further its work to wipe out chronic homelessness by year’s end and tackle health, educational, and financial stability challenges. Click here to learn more about that; and/or click on the above video.
The Arts Council of Greater New Haven put out a similar #GivingTeesday pitch with the above video and sending donors to this link.
Today I spent $300 on socks, underwear, and hats for the homeless. Jesse Hardy is my witness. I consider giving to UW a big mistake for many reasons. They say they have housed 90,000 people nationally but when I approached them for dough, they said no and I dont think they are doing enough for our homeless. This "charity" touted by Yale and others is run by a well paid bureaucracy.
