With a quarter-million grant from the Community Foundation, the Shubert Theater is closer to bringing “Little Shubert” into the world.
Little Shubert, a new performance venue at the College Street theater, is one new development that got a boost from a new grant by the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven.
The foundation awarded the Shubert Theater $250,000 to help fund the Shubert Centennial Plan, which includes the construction of a new orchestra shell, the creation of the Little Shubert, and deferred maintenance and upgrades to the building, according to a release.
The Centennial Plan calls for raising $7.1 million for capital improvements and $4 million for a permanent endowment.
Speaking of little theaters, does anyone know the status of the Little Theater on Lincoln St? I did a google search on it and not much came up. Is it open/are there shows there? According to this 2009 NHI article they were going to spend $5.7 million on it (which seemed like a lot for such a small place). Wonder if it ever happened.
