Police have arrested the man they believe sprayed 32 bullets into the air in Newhallville, wounding a female bystander and causing kids in a nearby house to duck for cover.
The shooting took place at 7:47 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 on Dixwell Avenue near West Division Street.
One of the bullets struck the shoulder of a 57-year-old woman, an innocent passerby who was riding in the passenger seat of her daughter’s car, according to police. One neighbor, whose kids dove to the floor for safety, said the shooting represented a new height of violence, for the number of bullets fired in daylight.
Police spokesman Dave Hartman announced Thursday that police have arrested a 20-year-old man known as T‑Carter for the shooting. He was charged with assault in the first degree, unlawful discharge, carrying a pistol without a permit and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
T‑Carter was already in police custody, Hartman said: Police tracked him down in a Hamden home on June 3 and charged him with shooting at police who were trying to conduct a raid on an apartment at Presidential Gardens on Dixwell Avenue. Read more about that here.
"Innocent passerby" suggests that others who were passing by were somehow implicated in the shooting.
