An apparent road rage incident ended with one driver hitting another in the head with a hammer Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Whalley Avenue near the intersection of Dayton Street. Numerous people witnessed the incident while backed up in traffic.
“Several witnesses reported seeing a man exit a green four-door Mazda with a hammer in his hand,” reported police spokesman Officer David Hartman. “The man approached another man who was in a black Cadillac. The armed man struck the victim on the head with the hammer. Both men drove off.
“Police learned the victim had gone to a home on Fountain Terrace where he or someone else there phoned for medical assistance. According to Firefighters that responded, the victim refused medical attention and so the left.
“The victim wasn’t there when officers arrived, but they were able to contact him by phone. He said he was OK and didn’t wish to pursue the issue or make a complaint.”
I thought cops were obliged to file charges for assault no matter what the victim wants to do?
