Police are investigating an early morning shooting on Lawrence Street that left an 18-year-old New Haven man with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff sent out an email press release about the shooting and ongoing investigation Thursday morning.
He wrote that, at around 6:13 a.m., city police and firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls of gunfire and of a person shot in the area of Lawrence Street, Mechanic Street, and Nash Street in the East Rock/Goatville neighborhood.
The arriving officers found the injured 18-year-old in a parking lot at the rear of East Rock Community Magnet School on Nash Street. The man was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital.
After canvassing the area, officers located the primary crime on Lawrence Street between Mechanic Street and Nash Street. Detectives found evidence of gunfire in the roadway and a parked vehicle struck by gunfire.
As of 9:30 a.m., the streets have been reopened.

Another young man injured by gunfire. Please if you love this young man convince him to not retaliate and to give any information to the detective assigned to the case. Next time he might not be so lucky. Those who live by the gun, die by the gun, or are imprisoned, or risk having their loved ones injured or killed.
