2 Teachers Test Positive For Covid

Two Hamden High School teachers tested positive for Covid-19 Wednesday — just a few weeks before school is set to reopen in the town on Sept. 8.

Superintendent Jody Goeler said that on Wednesday, an adult education teacher and a special education teacher both notified the Hamden public school district that they had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

He said the Quinnipiac Valley Health District believes the cases are separate and that the teachers may have contracted the virus from people in their respective households who had recently tested positive.

Goeler said Hamden High was closed Thursday for a deep cleaning, particularly of the areas where the teachers work.

He said no students were in the building this week and could not have come in contact with the teachers.

He said the teachers did come to the building before they tested positive.

Both teachers are quarantining at home for 14 days, and will not be able to return to work until they have received negative test results.

Goeler said the building will reopen to staff on Monday.
