55-Yr-Old Gunshot Victim Dies; Suspect Detained

A 55-year-old New Haven man died Friday after he was shot in the head during a dispute inside a downtown residential building.

Police have identified and detained the suspect.

Police Chief Otoniel Reyes confirmed that the victim, Michael Rosario, died the day after he was shot in the head Thursday afternoon inside 109 Court St.

Reyes told the Independent that the suspect has been identified and detained” and that charges are pending.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with murder and is being held on $750,000 bond in the case. The suspect confessed to the crime, according to a press release issued Saturday. The suspect also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Meriden for violation of a protective order. He conf

The chief plans to hold a press conference Monday to discuss specifics of the arrest.

According to Reyes’s earlier accounting of what happened the day of the shooting, two men who live in the building and know each other got into an argument inside the building. One pulled out a gun during the argument and shot the other in the head. The shooter fled.

Police responded to the scene after receiving calls through 911 about the shooting. When officers arrived, they found Rosario with a gunshot wound to the head. Rosario was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was reported in critical condition, struggling for his life, and subsequently died the following day.
