Saturday's fire at 80 Laura Ln.

One person died Saturday after an early morning fire ripped through a single-family house on the East Shore.

Fire Chief John Alston and Assistant Fire Chief Justin McCarthy confirmed that fatal fire in a press release and incident report sent to the Independent Monday morning.

The blaze took place at around 3:11 a.m. Saturday at the single-family house at 80 Laura Ln. The cause is still under investigation, and the fire department has not yet released the name of the deceased as it works to identify the person and notify next of kin.

Here’s what Alston’s press release about the Laura Lane fire states in full:

On this Saturday, November 26, 2022, members of the New Haven Fire Department responded to a reported fire in a residential dwelling, at 80 Laura Lane. This occurred at approximately 0311 hours. On arrival members observed heavy fire emanating from the first-floor front and the roof of the building.

Members mounted an aggressive interior attack with multiple hose lines, only to discover a victim in one of the first-floor bedrooms. The name of the deceased is being withheld by authorities, until positive identification is made and the proper notifications of next of kin can be made. There were no other injuries or casualties reported at this incident.”

And in a current statue” section of the document, Alston wrote: Administrative warrants are being secured so that evidence can be collected. This fire is still under investigation by multiple agencies.”

McCarthy told the Independent that the fire is still an open investigation by the fire marshal’s office and by the state police’s fire and explosion unit.
