A Covid-19 outbreak at Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School has led to the largest quarantine to date at a New Haven public school.
The quarantine affects the school’s joint seventh and eighth-grade cohort.
Six students in the cohort were found to by symptomatic with Covid-19, according to schools spokesperson Justin Harmon.
The remaining 91 students will quarantine as a result.
“Grade 7/8 are one team of students who share the same classrooms, hallways and bathrooms,” Harmon stated. “They have the same teachers and they also eat together in the café.
“This is the largest such outbreak we have had.”
It's a bit hard to tell because of the way the state gives the numbers, but NHPS has reported at least 230 student covid cases this fall. The number could be as high as 1062, because the state uses "less than 6" for any number of cases 1 through 5.
Last week alone, 32 New Haven public schools reported at least one (but less than 6) covid cases. https://data.ct.gov/Health-and-Human-Services/COVID-19-Cases-in-CT-Schools-By-School-2021-2022-S/8xd9-2eym/data
