By next summer, basketballs will be bouncing at the corner of Chapel and Day streets.

David Moser (pictured), a staffer in the City Plan Department, announced that news at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Dwight Community Management Team.

Moser announced a new basketball court will be put up in the spring in the park at the corner of Chapel and Day streets.

The court’s construction will fulfill a promise by Achievement First, the charter school organization that opened up a school nearby on Edgewood Avenue a year ago. When it moved into the neighborhood, Achievement First pledged to install a new court for the neighborhood.

After months of planning, Moser unveiled the final plan for that court. He said the construction will go out to bid this winter and the job will be complete by May or June of next year.

Plans also call for new playground equipment as part of a second phase. That work will not be funded by Achievement First. Moser said the parks department intends to ask for capital budget money to make it happen.
