As it struggles to stay alive, the New Haven Boys & Girls Club has turned to a new leader
The organization’s board announced Wednesday that CEO Stephanie Barnes is stepping down. The board appointed Chad Sclove as interim director.
The announcement comes two weeks after the Hill-based not-for-proft, which was founded in 1871, almost closed it doors, rescued for now at the 11th hour by a $125,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
The club’s board is now working on a long-term sustainability plan. Or, as the press release announce the leadership change put it, “evaluating the organization’s financial issues in order to determine and secure the resources necessary to sustain long term Club operations.
Sclove (pictured) has most recently been working in regional development for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, according to his LinkedIn profile, which describes him as a “consultant with expertise in grantmaking and executing investments to achieve social impact across education, human services, arts and culture, and conservation.” He previously managed a $10 million-plus philanthropic portfolio for Fidelity Foundations in New Hampshire.
The families served by the Boys and Girls Club must be very grateful to the Community Foundation for this rescue.
Here's hoping Mr. Schlove, as Interim Director, can design a long term plan to sustain the organization.
