A Presidential Murder Interrupted Popeye”

Rafael Ramos had a big family growing up. His mother, father, siblings, and some extended members he rarely saw: John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, and Malcolm X.

At least, that’s the sense he made of the large photos hanging in his home as a child, where he saw them daily when he woke up, came home from school, and went to bed at night. And that’s why, when Eddie Barker broke into an episode of Popeye The Sailor man on Nov. 22, 1963 to announce that the president had been shot dead in his motorcade, he wondered if they had lost a member of the family.

Ramos brought that story, based on a childhood memory, to the latest episode of his Bregamos Community Theater Hour” on WNHH radio. To listen to the show, which also includes a discussion with WNHH station manager Lucy Gellman and reading of Jesús Colón, click on the audio above or find it in iTunes or on any podcast app under WNHH Community Radio.”
