Six years ago, Justin Elicker said he would immediately transition all city pensions into 401k defined contribution plans.

Now he says he doesn't favor such a change

What changed?

What will you immediately do to stop our wild spending that you can do by your own order?

Will you commit to ending the pursuit of expansion at Tweed (as an example of foolish spending above)

Will you commit to an anti- litter campaign to clean up our dirty city?

Will you ask police to enforce noise ordinances with regard to cars and motorcycle noise that is becoming a quality of life issue all over our city?

How will you try to clean the house of incompetence and corruption with the new broom you are given?

To Mr. Elicker:
1) Last spring the Board of Alders approved the mayor's $556+ million budget without substantial change. Specifically, how would you trim just 1% ($5.56 million) from the budget?

To both candidates:
The New Haven Fire Department responds to virtually all EMS calls in the city. Transport to the hospital, when required, is performed by an out of state owned ambulance service at a cost in excess of $1000 when Advanced Life Support is required. Would you be in favor of beginning the process of having Fire Department ambulances transport patients to the hospital, like is currently done in Wallingford, thus generating considerable funds for the Fire Department?

To Mayor Harp:
There are currently vacancies on many city boards and commissions (per the city website which appears to be well outdated) and some are filled by members of the same political party in apparent violation of state statute. What are you doing to ensure that all boards and commissions are filled and in compliance with the law?

We should all applaud the NHI for reaching out to the community to ask for questions.

For both candidates:
Which State energy reforms will you support and advocate, in order to permit residents and small businesses to receive more affordable energy and consistent funding of efficiency programs? Who are trusted advisors regarding energy policy and customer experiences to your staff?

How does the New Haven Climate and Sustainability Framework guide your thinking around local and state initiatives? What initiatives do you consider most ready to impact citizen's economic well-being and environmental quality?

Is local building code enforcement working well, in your opinion? If not, what enforcement have/will you utilize to improve City visibility/transparency of housing performance?

Did Justin Elicker ever propose cutting over one million dollars from the school budget as claimed by the Harp campaign?

What has been your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

What is the status of Jason Bartlett and the Youth Services Department?

To both candidates: How do you define a Progressive? Are you one?

I see everyone writing their questions in the comment section. Did everyone e-mail the questions to Paul like he stated in the article? hahahaha. I hope so.

Justin what is your plan for keeping the momentum of HVN as a viable regional airport

I submitted 13 questions for this debate. None were selected. I never realized until tonight after the debate that the editor requested that the questions be emailed to him directly.
But since the editor responded to a statement regarding clarification of the email request, Paul Bass must have seen all of the questions that I and others posted here.
Now it would have been wise NOT to have allowed the candidates to see all the questions posted here in advance of the debate, but many of the issues I and others raised were not addressed in any for m by this editor or anyone else.
The current school leadership crisis, the lead paint issue, the numerous lawsuits, appeals and settlements and the Escape-Bartlett-FBI investigation and other issues of great controversy were not directly addressed in questions by the NHI editor or the others.Next time the NHI asks for questions, I have to remember to read the request in its entirety instead of making assumptions.
