This is a time of so much loss.

I really wish there was a way to get the Fentanyl and Xylazine out of the opioids and narcotics. It.Is.Killing.Our.Kids.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man. It's so very sad to see the number of people overdosing and really not knowing what they are ingesting, which is leading to death. This is all due to self-medication as a result of untreated trauma. Please encourage people who have suffered a traumatic event to seek counseling. It saves lives.

So sad. What's worse is the "progressive" city leadership has stood by silently during this silent epidemic.

Why does Dennis blame everything on leadership? Does he not understand causality?

Since 2019, New Haven County has had the second highest drug overdose rate in the state by far according to the Dept of Public Health.

"In Connecticut, residents are more likely to die from unintentional drug overdose than a motor vehicle accident. The majority of these deaths are linked to overdose of prescription opioid painkillers and illicit opioids. According to the CDC, the 2020 Connecticut age-adjusted rate for drug-induced mortality was 39.1 per 100,000 population compared to the 2020 national rate of 28.3."

And yet, nothing substantial is done. Rep Roland Lamar is worried about a handful of pedestrian deaths without context to driver responsibility - wants red light cameras and a heavier enforcement hand - and you have young people dying at a far greater rate. Most of the dead are people of color according to DPH. So where are our black politicians or any politician on this subject? Crickets.

If we had harm reduction safe use centers we could reduce overdoses and infections and identify deadly substances added to illegal drugs, and have safe drug paraphernalia disposal sites, taking illegal drug use off the streets and saving lives.

it really bothers me that people are pointing their finger at parents,politicians etc. some of these individuals were raised right there're but just not going to do right. the choice to do these dangerous drugs are solely up to the individual themself whether to use them or not. Prayers to the young person family who lost their life. drugs were here before we came and will be here long after we're gone, we have to make better choices, and them street drugs and drugs that are not prescribed to you is not cool.
