Go To Cop School

Neighbors are welcome to apply to look behind-the-scenes at the New Haven Police Department.

The department is offering a Citizens’ Academy” once a week for eight weeks at 710 Sherman Parkway, to teach the everyday New Havener about the work of everyday cops, and increase trust and communication in the process. The class goes from July 13 to Sept. 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with light meals included.

The topics of discussion include crime scene investigations, police use of force, civilian review board, the court system, and community policing. Those accepted also will have the chance to ride along with a police officer on his or her shift.

Applicants must be at 18-years-old and have no outstanding arrest warrant, felony convictions or convictions including domestic ciolence, drugs or the use of a weapon.

Applications must be submitted in person by July 1 at 5 p.m.
