The city will be offering free meals Friday to the thousands of New Haveners who remain without power after Superstorm Sandy.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday, 4,450 households, or 8.3 percent of the city, remained without power, a large bulk of them in Morris Cove.
The city is offering free MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) to New Haveners who lack food due to Sandy-related damages or power outages.
New Haveners can pick up the food at one of seven sites from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday:
1. Newhallville – 596 Winchester Avenue Police Substation
2. Dwight – 150 Edgewood Avenue Police Substation
3. Hill – 410 Howard Avenue Police Substation
4. Fair Haven – Firehouse at 412 Lombard Street
5. East Shore – Firehouse at 510 Lighthouse Road
6. East Shore — Firehouse at 826 Woodward Avenue
7. Westville – Firehouse at 105 Fountain Street
United Illuminating has pledged to restore 95 percent of the state’s power by Monday.
Meanwhile, the city’s Emergency Operations Center remains open, according to a city press release. Call 203 – 946-8221 with any storm-related concerns or questions.
In addition, the following firehouses are open as charging stations between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday for those without power :
