Cool Events Here & Elsewhere This Weekend

It does look as if spring has finally arrived. So it is time to take a walk in the woods, revisit your favorite May flowers, visit your state senator or check out an event designed to help felines in need.

A Walk In The Woods 

Bill Horne will lead a Wildflower Walk starting at 10 a.m. Walkers will get to see and identify wildflowers and native plants on the lovely Bontatibus Property. Meet at the parking lot at 149 Northford Road. Take Mill Plain Road from East Main Street to the intersection with Queach Road (first stop sign, about 0.8 miles.) Continue straight on Northford Road about 0.6 miles to the meeting place. (Rain date: Sunday, May 3.)

The walk is less than a mile. Dogs on leash are fine. The walk is good kids ages 5 and older; younger kids are welcome if parents are prepared to carry them across streams and up steep sections. For all BLT walks, please wear appropriate dress and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome. For more information call (203) 415‑1571.

A Conversation with State Sen. Ted Kennedy, Jr.

State Sen. Ted Kennedy, Jr. will hold hour meetings this month to meet with constituents in Guilford and Killingworth.

Kennedy will be in the Menunkatuck Room of the Guilford Community Center, 32 Church St. noon to 1:30 p.m. today. And he will meet with townsfolk from Killingworth at the Killingworth Public Library, 301 CT-81, on Monday, May 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Donkey and Mule Festival 

This wonderful event featuring apple blossom wagon rides, donkey and mule shows and great food and wine begins at 9 a.m. and runs to 4 p.m. at Bishop’s Orchards off exit 57 in Guilford.

Phantoms for Felines” Event

Members of the Ghost Hunter’s Guild will be giving a talk and slideshow presentation on some of their most interesting investigations, types of hauntings, and the equipment used in their work. So, whether you are a believer or a skeptic, it is sure to be a fascinating evening. Desserts and coffee will be served.

This paranormal evening takes place at the James Blackstone Library, 758 Main St., 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue & Adoption Center, located at 2037 Foxon Road in North Branford, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, please visit www.branfordcompassionclub.org

Murder at the Blackstone Library

It’s a night of murder and mystery at the James Blackstone Library! When an author winds up dead at the library, everyone’s a suspect! Who killed Agatha Mystery? Solve the clues, interview suspects and help catch a killer. Showtime: 7 p.m.

Tickets are $40, and include delicious finger foods, deadly drinks, craft beer tasting and a deathly funny interactive play, starring the Round Table Players. All proceeds benefit the Blackstone Library. Questions? Email [email protected].
