(Updated) A woman was found dead in Edgewood Park Friday morning in an incident that does not appear to involve foul play.
Police responded to a call received at 8:08 a.m. and discovered the body of the woman — later identified as 31-year-old New Havener Jasmine Wilkes — near the closed-to-traffic road and stream running between Whalley Avenue and the duck pond on the Westville side of the park, according to police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.
There were no signs of trauma or evidence of violence, Bruckhart said. Detectives were headed to the scene “out of an abundance of caution” to gather more information.
A post to the New Haven Police Department’s X account on Saturday stated that the cause and manner of Wilkes’ death are still pending from the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
