One bullet hit him in the groin. Another grazed his head.
That was the fate of a 28-year-old man who was shot on Norton Street around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. The man went to the hospital, where his condition was described as stable. Police, who believe the man may have been targeted, are investigating.
Six teenaged girls accosted a graduate student at Edgewood Avenue and Lynwood Place at around 10:20 p.m. Friday. One of the girls punched her, and the group made off with her wallet, according to an email message circulated by Yale Police Chief Ronnell Higgins. Police rounded up suspects, but the victim couldn’t make an identification.
In other police news, police Sunday caught a copper pipe thief in the act, according to city police spokesman Hartman. Here’s his description of what happened:
“At 9:30 a.m., Officers Rafael Ramirez and Darryl Cargill responded to a burglary complaint at 1681 Quinnipiac Ave. A neighbor called police when she spotted a white man entering the home next door through the basement window. She suspected foul play because no one lived at the house.
“The officers were greeted by another neighbor who pointed out the home. As they approached, they heard someone moving about inside. Officer Carlos Colon joined them as they searched the home. Officer Colon spotted dirt beneath the ceiling door to the attic.
“He climbed up the ladder and found [a 19-year-old New Haven man]. His attempt at hiding was anything but victorious. He was handcuffed and brought outside where the witness identified him as the burglar.
“The witness told Officer Ramirez she’d been keeping an eye on the place and spotted [the man] crawl through the window and moments later begin passing pieces of copper pipe outside through the same window.”
