DeLauro: Surgery Was Successful

Update: At 2:25 p.m., DeLauro sent out a follow-up press release about how Monday’s surgery was a success. I am pleased to share that my surgery at Griffin Hospital was a success, and I am deeply grateful to Dr. Judith L. Gorelick and the entire care team for their skill and support,” DeLauro is quoted as saying. I also want to thank my family, friends, colleagues, and constituents for their well wishes and encouragement.”

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday to treat spinal stenosis.

DeLauro spokesperson King Green sent out an email press release about the procedure Monday morning.

That press release reads in full:

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT3), is in Griffin Hospital for surgery today to treat Spinal Stenosis, a common treatment for a common occurrence’, according to Dr. Judith L. Gorelick, a board-certified neurosurgeon, who will be performing the procedure.

As is routine for such surgery, physical therapy will follow. Rep. DeLauro will resume her schedule while physical therapy continues and return to DC when Congress reconvenes in September.”

According to the Mayo Clinic’s website, spinal stenosis happens when the space inside the backbone is too small. This can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves that travel through the spine. Spinal stenosis happens most often in the lower back and the neck,” and the most common cause is arthritis.

DeLauro, 82, is the ranking Democratic member on the House Appropriations Committee, and has represented New Haven in Congress since 1991.
