48 Arrested In Drag Racing Bust

City police arrested 48 people and towed 10 vehicles in a drag racing bust on Foxon Boulevard.

Those arrests took place Saturday, according to a press release put out by police spokesperson Sgt. Shayna Kendall. They were led by East Shore top cop Lt. Jason Rentkowicz.

See below for Kendall’s full press release, which was sent out on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, October 12, 2019 New Haven Police Uniformed Officers and East Shore top cop Lieutenant Jason Rentkowicz tackle drag racers who set up in the area of Foxon Boulevard.

Rentkowicz and his detail developed a strategic plan which included establishing traffic posts at target locations to address various violations. In speaking with business owners on the Foxon strip where these racers would stage, they all reported this activity was unwanted and grew increasingly concerned about the issue. Rentkowicz assured that any racer or spectator entering a business lot will be arrested for the appropriate charges.

The most popular location was McDonalds located at 225 Foxon Boulevard which is where the majority of arrests were made. These arrests range from Trespass in the 3rd Degree to motor vehicle charges ranging from the operation of an unregistered vehicle and misuse of a marker plate.

In total, there were 47 Adult Arrests, 1 Juvenile Arrest, and 10 Vehicles towed. All arrestees were issued a promise to appear in court for the crimes committed.

Any information or reports can be made anonymously and tips can be emailed to: ECIC@newhavenct.gov or by contacting Lt. Rentkowicz via email: [email protected] as well as the Public Safety Access Point at (203) 946‑6316.
