(Updated) A 53-year-old New Haven man named Milton Williams died Sunday after a car struck him at the intersection of Elm and Temple Streets.
So reported police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff.
The downtown crash occurred at 4:30 p.m. The driver “remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” Duff wrote in a release. The department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
Duff asked witnesses to contact police at 203 – 946-6316.
On Monday, Duff offered this updated information (in addition to the victim’s name): “Investigators believe the pedestrian was walking north on Temple Street when he entered the intersection at Elm Street. A 28-year-old Hamden woman was driving with the flow of traffic east on Elm Street when she entered the intersection.”
Regardless of the circumstances, it is very hard to kill someone if driving at 25 MPH with one's eyes on the road.
Reckless driving? Impaired driving? Distracted driving?
My guess is it will be found to be the dead pedestrian's fault....
