Elicker: 100% Comply With Vax-Or-Test Mandate

Thank you to everyone who got vaccinated. Hopefully the mandates will convince the rest of the country to get fully vaccinated so we can end this pandemic in our country, and then we can help the rest of the world eradicate covid like we eradicated the smallpox virus. God willing.

Another day. Another mandate. What's the metric for ending the foolish masking? Bet there isn't one.

Though 78 percent of city employees have received COVID-19 vaccinations, only 65 percent of the New Haven Police Department was partially or fully vaccinated as of Wednesday, pulling down the city's average.

The remaining 35 percent of the force must receive weekly testing, per a "test or vaccinate" mandate for city employees. There is 100 percent compliance with this policy, Mayor Justin Elicker said at a Wednesday press conference. Since the mandate's implementation, 84 people have been newly vaccinated. At the press conference, which featured Elicker, NHPD Chief Renee Dominguez and Assistant Chief Karl Jacobson provided updates on law enforcement recruitment efforts and vaccination compliance numbers in the Elm City. Elicker told the News that there was particular difficulty in encouraging compliance among NHPD employees, but that outreach efforts had ultimately led to success.

Jdavenport- smallpox was eradicated worldwide. That is scientific fact. Polio was mostly eradicated in the USA and in most developed nations, along with other viruses and diseases. It can be done. It takes willpower, collaborative efforts, cooperation, money and determination. And oh yeah, these were all done in the days before the internet, social media, and media sources opinion shows posing as "news." So misinformation from those outlets has to be countered as well as the virus itself in order for our world to fight this virus. But it can be done.

Every virus has a reservoir of transmission. The reservoir can be human or animal. Human reservoir viruses can be eradicated with vaccination, think smallpox or polio. Animal reservoir viruses cannot be eradication with vaccination, think HIV, the flu, or Ebola.

Now I will not argue the efficacy of a vaccine for lessening symptoms for some, but people will still get and transmit the virus.

This is basic epidemiology and available right on the CDC website. People comparing COVID to smallpox or polio are very misinformed and need to be educated.

Jdavenport: While HTLV I and HTLV II exist in certain simians, I am not aware that HTLV III (aka HIV), the version which causes AIDS, has any animal reservoirs. HTLV II has long existed in both monkeys and humans in Africa and South America with little harm.
