At last year's Q House farmers market.

The following writeup was submitted by Leadership, Education, Athletics in Partnership, Inc. (LEAP) Communications Coordinator Nicole Jefferson.

Fresh food returns to the Dixwell Q House Plaza at 197 Dixwell Ave. for the second year of the CitySeed Farmers Market at the Q House.

On opening day this Wednesday, get ready to groove thanks to DJ Herman Hamm spinning all the best tracks. Stay tuned throughout the summer for easy, DIY cooking demonstrations that you can recreate at home! The market will run every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 14th through Oct. 25

New this year: The market is doubling all cash, credit, and debit purchases, regardless of the item. Your $10 can get you $20 worth of food! Thanks to the CT Fresh Match Grant from End Hunger CT, we are also doubling all SNAP/EBT purchases on all fresh produce. Isn’t that a sweet deal?

With your money doubled, you can check out wares from returning and new vendors.

Last year’s market saw a vibrant mix of vendors including local favorites like Momma Kiss Kitchen Cuisine and Olmo Bagelry. This year we are excited for returning vendors Massaro Community Farms and Pedals Smoothie & Juice Bar and to welcome new vendors such as Caribe Soul, and Root Life Organic. Opening day will also feature handcrafted soaps from Tierra Soap Company and delectable artisan cupcakes from Je T’aime Cupcakes.

The CitySeed Farmers Market at Q House is more than just a place to buy produce.

Join the community with your neighbors and swap recipes or converse over a refreshing smoothie. This particular location at the Q House also brings intergenerational connection with the presence of the Dixwell-Newhallville Senior Center upstairs and LEAP’s summer programming for youth at the neighboring Wexler Grant School.

The CitySeed Farmers Market at Q House is a partnership involving the organizations hosted at the Q House: LEAP, the Stetson Branch of the New Haven Public Library, the City of New Haven’s Dixwell-Newhallville Senior Center, and Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center.

The market is on rain or shine! Join us Wednesday, June 14th from 3 pm — 6 pm for opening day!
