Two adults and six children living in a Winchester Avenue apartment fled a fire early Thursday.
The fire began shortly before 6 a.m. in a first-floor bedroom at the house at 704 Winchester Ave.
Eight members of a family live there. They escaped, unhurt, before firefighters arrived. Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 20 minutes, containing it to that one building, according to Assistant Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli.
The upper two floors were vacant.
Marcarelli said the Red Cross is finding somewhere else for the family to sleep. The fire’s cause is unknown at this point, Marcarelli said.
