From Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon, you can donate money to your favorite cause — and have it count extra.
That can happen through an annual “competition” for not-for-profit fundraising.
For 36 hours, not-for-profits encourage their supporters to donate money. They compete to see who gets the most contributions.
The event’s called “The Great Give.” The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven sponsors it.
You sign up and pick one of 200 not-for-profit organizations on the Foundation’s giveGreater.org database, organizations that “that feed the hungry, teach our children, protect the environment, shelter animals, build community, promote healthy living, enrich our culture, support the aging.” Make a donation.
Then, over that 36 hours, the foundation will give prizes to organizations that get the most donations in various categories ranging from $5,000 to $20,000.
And everyone wins.
