The Branford girls’ hockey team broke a three-game losing streak last week with a 7 – 1 victory over Lauralton Hall.
Branford is part of a co-op team consisting of players from Branford, North Branford and East Haven.
The Hornets started out early with four goals in the first period including the first goal at (14:04) by sophomore Megan Odice (NB) for a 1 – 0 lead. Emilia Wilkinson had the assist.
Co-captain Julia Schatz followed up with the second goal three minutes later (10:53) on an assist from Emmy Norton and Sydney Hogan, and Odice scored her second goal in the period a minute later on an assist from Maddy Rowe (9:50) for a quick 3 – 0 lead over the Crusaders.

“Jumping on them early was important,” said co-coach Lauren Wiggins. “It helps takes a team out of the game when they’re down by three goals early in the game.”
Sophomore Caroline Erickson and junior Alana Hamilton put pressure on Lauralton goalie Elizabeth Wallace at the net.

Co-captain Anne Pascale closed out the scoring in the first period at 4:27 on an unassisted goal.
Branford opened the second period with their fifth goal by Sydney Hogan on assist from Schatz and Norton to put the game out of reach. “This allowed us to get some of our younger players some valuable experience,” said co-coach Jack Norton.

The final two goals were scored by Alycia Ferretti and Jackie DaRos for the ending score. With the win, Branford’s record improved to 4 – 6.
