The Lady Hornets softball team broke out with a vengeance last Wednesday as they scored a 15 – 0 victory over the Career Panthers.
It was a dank, cold and rainy day with the wind starting up in the fourth inning but by that time the Hornets had already scored 14 of their 15 runs.
They were well on their way to their first victory of the season early in the game.
“This win was huge because we got it in with bad weather and we needed the ‘W’ in the win column,” said Coach Chuck Reale.
Branford had a special day against the Panthers, getting 15 hits to go with their 15 runs on offense.
Starter Julia Rosenberg (see top photo) provided great pitching. “Julia kept them in check all game and the offense scored early and often enough to seal the win”, said Reale”. Rosenberg only allowed 3 hits during her 7- inning stint.
Having a big game at the plate for the Hornets was catcher Marissa Guglielmi who went 3 for 4, knocking in 4 runs.
Senior co- captain Nicole Carrano (pictured) went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
The first win of the season brought Branford’s record to 1 – 6. They also played on Thursday, losing 8 – 7 to East Haven. The Panthers dropped to 2 – 5.
The Hornets next home game is Friday, May 1, against Madison’s Hand High School.
