Great Give Hits Home Stretch

Babz Rawls-Ivy and Jackie Downing kick off the Great Give Radiothon on WNHH FM.

Giving topped $2 million as the New Haven’s annual 36-hour Great Give” entered the final laps Thursday, with 510 nonprofits in a friendly competition to raise money and win $268,500 in prizes.

The annual event — dubbed the Met Gala of giving” — runs through 8 p.m. Thursday. The total raised topped $2.4 million by 9:45 a.m.

During the event, organizations make pitches and tell their stories on a WNHH FM radiothon, whose host, Babz Rawls-Ivy, offered the Met Gala” analogy on air during an initial conversation with Jackie Downing of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, which organizes and hosts the event. 

Downing said the 510 participating organizations represent a participation record, up from 431 in 2021.
