Arrests Yield 10 Guns

NHPD

Police are hoping that a series of gun arrests will put a dent in the uptick of shootings in town.

The department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, Shooting Task Force, and Narcotics Enforcement Unit reported seizing 10 guns in all between May 6 and 11 after executing search warrants on two men and arresting two men near Goffe Street Park.

The seized weapons are pictured above. One of the ten was stolen, according to police; another had an obliterated serial number.

The police units have been working to stem shootings amid a recent flurry of incidents, including one on May 4 when a 9‑year-old boy was shot while inside a car.

The volume of guns taken off the streets and subsequent arrests, in such a short period of time and with no injury to officers or suspects is an amazing feat. This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of all Officers and Detectives involved,” Lt. Karl Jacobson, who heads the intelligence unit, stated in a release.

Stabbing Leaves Man In Critical Condition

A knife, not a gun, critically wounded a man in a fight outside a bar early Sunday.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Capt. Anthony Duff:

A disturbance” began inside a bar at 299 Blatchley Ave., which used to be known as Lou’s Lodge. The fight ended up across the street outside the neighborhood police station with a 49-year-old man getting stabbed.

Someone drove the man to the hospital, which police learned at 2:06 a.m. and began investigating.

The New Haven man suffered a life threatening stab wound to the abdomen and is hospitalized in critical condition,” Duff reported in a release.

The bar has a history of violent incidents, like this 2011 fatal confrontation with police
