A man was shot and killed on Elliot Street in the Hill early Saturday morning.
Police Capt. Anthony Duff sent out an email press release about the fatal incident just before 9 a.m.
He wrote that, at approximately 2:55 a.m., city police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and multiple 911 calls about gunfire and a gunshot victim on Elliot Street between Sylvan Avenue and Davenport Avenue.
Emergency responders on the scene found an adult male gunshot victim lying in the street. An ambulance transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators are canvassing the area and holding a crime scene. Detectives ask anyone with information to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304.
(Update: Police Monday identified victim as 27 year old Luis Nelson Perez of Naugatuck.)
