Wanted: New Hillhouse High School Principal

There must be someone qualified in NHPS to take his place. Love to see a strong woman take his place. Good luck finding someone so late in the year!

I truly wish him the best. There’s been a pattern of staff feeling overwhelmed and unsupported by the chain of command. I would love for an outsider to really examine the facts regarding the truancy rates. My personal belief is that the school adjusted their daily schedule, making homeroom later in the day; so that students are able to check in during that brief 15m period and continue to walk right out of the building. I’ve been told that Individual class attendance is severely low, graduation rates were low and grades were low. The school is still not equipped with enough security personnel and last year there was an alarming number of permanent substitutes; not certified to teach. Under these circumstances, how can we blame anyone for feeling defeated. He’s definitely witty and solution based but I wish there was an exit interview, requesting reasoning for staff departures across the board.

I don't know Mr. Sweeting. I did know several of the other Administrators who also left NHPS, supposedly for greener pastures. So, if you're going to say adios because NHPS is too tough or doesn't support quality education, I get that. But please, have the courtesy and the professionalism to give NHPS better notice than a month before the new academic year.

Mr.Sweeting’s departure is a loss to our school. Took on a difficult job when NHPS needed him. Students connected with him and that is important. He was invested in New Haven. Huge loss for all of us- willing to make changes. Wonder if this is a connection of the arrival of our new superintendent and his departure? Personal agenda and bringing on connected people from her past seem to be happening despite stating the opposite.
Good luck to him- deserves the best working conditions from administration.
