30-Year-Old Shot Dead On Hobart St.

A 30-year-old New Havener named Manuel Miranda was shot and killed on Hobart Street early Saturday morning.

According to New Haven Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr, police received a report of a gunshot victim in the 100-block of Hobart Street in the Edgewood neighborhood at 1:58 a.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers located a thirty-year-old male victim on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gun-shot wounds. A crime scene was secured,” Carr wrote. In a followup email, Carr identified the victim as Manuel Miranda.

Officers began to render aid, until Fire and American Medical Response personnel arrived on the scene,” Carr wrote in her initial email press release on Saturday. The victim was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital located at 20 York Street. Shortly thereafter, the victim succumbed to his injuries.”

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification responded to the scene to gather evidence and interview witnesses and search for surveillance footage. ShotSpotter was not activated in the area where Miranda was found, but ballistic evidence was found on scene.”

This is an ongoing investigation and being treated as one incident,” Carr wrote. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).”

According to the latest city CompStat report covering the week of Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, there had been 17 homicides so far this year by that time — making Miranda’s death the 18th of 2023. That compares to 10 homicides by this time last year.
