Three patients at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital have been diagnosed with a toxic-shock syndrome that is likely associated with Covid-19.
A Yale New Haven Hospital spokesperson made that announcement in a Monday afternoon email press release.
The email states that the three child patients represent the first in the state to be diagnosed with Pediatric Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome.
“Unfortunately, this disease carries features of toxic shock syndrome and elements of Kawasaki Disease and strikes school-aged children. While these cases are exceptionally rare, given our proximity to New York, where there have been a significant number reported, we have been watching their experience closely,” Clifford Bogue, physician-in-chief of YNHCH, is quoted as saying in the release.
“We are working diligently with local and state health officials to address this issue and strongly recommend that children who may be suffering from symptoms seek early referrals to pediatric infectious disease specialists, rheumatologists or cardiologists.”
The email states that symptoms of Pediatric Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome include a persistent fever, rash, vomiting, and diarrhea. Patients can also suffer from cardiac inflammation.
“If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, please call your pediatrician for advice.”
A handful of children in New York have died from the toxic-shock syndrome, and dozens more have been sickened.
I know we all are desperate for our kids to go out of the house routine to have some play time activities whit friends and it's great, the whole family needs that ! for their mental health (no kidding) and also for some parents also it's a financial necessity and babysitting issues that parents need to be very worried and figure out.
But. I just.think is NOT smart to open summer camps now util we know more about this new crisis on children. If we got scare with this virus attacking mostly our elderly community, I'm afraid if this time goes to our kids. People is just going to loose it.
How in the world you will control 6 to 14 years olds to follow restrictions ? As painful as it is to no have summer activities, I'm sure it will be worst to be dealing with covi-19 on Childers.
Very difficult times. Hats off for all the front line people and our public servers in charge to trying to make sense to these crazy times.
Thank you all.
