Klezmerites Ring In Passover

New Haven’s Nu Haven Kapelye klezmer band marked a tradition that’s thousands of years old with a new tradition of its own.

The old tradition is the Passover seder. Jews worldwide hold the ritual meals to mark the first night of Passover, which comes on Saturday this year.

Just in time for final preparations, Nu Haven Kapelye released a video mixing updated riffs on a classic tune along with some high-spirited visuals.

The video is called Dayenu,” after the song sung during the seder listing all the miracles wrought by the Almighty that would have been enough” on their own. Watch the video above.

These videos are becoming a tradition of their own for Nu Haven Kapelye since the Covid-19 pandemic began, curtailing live performances. Click here to watch more. Let’s hope the tradition continues when the fever breaks. Or if not —that will still have been enough!

Also this week, local rabbis Marci Bellow and Brian Immerman offered their inspirational takes on pandemic Passover celebrations this year and last, during a conversation on WNHH FM. Click above to watch that conversation.
