The Branford Lady Hornets started out looking like the UConn Lady Huskies last week when they jumped out to a 15 – 2 lead over Wilbur Cross after the first quarter.
A couple of early baskets by junior Julia Moore (pictured) and sophomore Keira Integlia (top photo) jump- started Branford and it looked like it was going to be an early night for Cross.
The Hornets led 22 – 12 at the half and kept the pressure on in the third period outscoring the Governor’s 13 – 6 to build what looked like an insurmountable 17 point lead, 35 – 18.
But slowly but surely Cross made a comeback and outscored the Lady Hornets 17 – 6 in the fourth quarter.
Their effort fell just short of a win; the Hornets held on for a 41 – 35 victory. Their next game against Amity High, postponed because of the blizzard, will be played at home tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7 p.m.
Integlia (14) and Moore (12) combined for 26 points to lead the Hornets.
Adrienne DiGioia (pictured) added six. Tamila Flowers led the Lady Governors with 10.
With the win Branford is 4 – 7 while Cross fell to 1 – 10.
