People know who this is. All mothers can identify their kids even in a poor quality photo. But they protect their own. There’s package stores in every town, don’t shop in new haven and risk your life.

Enough with the hyperbole! There are acts of violent crime everywhere. No city or suburb is immune, and criminals do travel.
In areas where there are higher concentrations of people, crime rates are generally higher than suburban areas. But it is a false premise to assume that shopping outside of New Haven will provide greater safety and security for people.
People should keep their guard up wherever they go. They should exercise sound judgment, and not act foolishly or presumptuosly. Lock your house and car doors. Watch your surroundings. Take out those ear buds and listen. Avoid dark, isolated areas, especially when alone. Get a car alarm, and set it off if danger lurks.
There are common sense things that people can to avoid being the victim of crime and violence whether you are in New Haven, Woodbridge, Madison or Orange.

This is why I carry. You can see in the pic he already has his hand on the gun and is ready to shoot. It's a shame Mark got killed because he went to the wrong package store and someone decided they would take his life. Prayers to his family. I hope justice prevails.

@ Thomas Paine - stop with the nonsense! The fact is your chances of getting robbed and killed in Orange are much lower than in New Haven. Period. I’d walk in a package store parking lot with an envelope of money at 2am before I would walk in new haven with empty pockets. Keep making excuses for New Haven and nothing will ever change.

New Haven is dangerous and Madison is not. Has nothing to do with how many people live in each city. It’s the clientele that live there that makes it the way it is. The sooner people admit it the sooner the problem can be worked on.

I live in New Haven. You're right. The number of stores and neighborhoods I go to shop is shrinking. Wont go to any liquor store on Whalley. Thinking about avoiding Amity Wines as well. Its so bad in the pond lily motel district the store has cut its evening hours.

So sad, Mark P. looks like a sweet person, of course nobody should be shot regardless of how they look.

YALEEMPLOYEE: Your bias is quite transparent as well as an ill informed assumption.
Many Mothers have made the heart wrenching decision to identify a criminal offspring to authorities. Further, to assume one city is safer than another (because of demographics) leaves one more vulnerable to be a potential victim. Best to be aware no matter where!

@lagniape I am not ASSUMING one city is safer than another. I’m positive one city is safer than another.
Maybe this was a hate crime, why isn’t anyone talking about that. If roles were reversed it would have certainly been mentioned by now. Along with a rally and a March.

My condolences to the victims... the victims include the family, witnesses and neighbors. The area has really been let to fester for some time. Hair cut trailer and portapotty has been there for years this does not improve curb appeal. And now a burnt out house that gets broken into.
. I know first hand that there was an effort to improve the area a few years back. It was squashed by the former alderperson.
