Murder Suspect Arrested In Maryland

A 44-year-old West Haven man was arrested in Maryland in connection with the murder of 36-year-old New Havener Ricky Newton.

New Haven police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff announced that news in a Friday evening email press release.

He wrote that Maryland State Police apprehended the suspect in the town of Princess Anne, Maryland earlier in the day, and took him into custody during the serving of a search and seizure warrant. He wrote that New Haven police have an extraditable murder warrant for the man’s arrest.

Duff said that the man was arrested in connection with the July 10 shooting death of Newton at a corner store at 192 Rosette St. near Wilson Street in the Hill.

The city has seen 11 homicides so far this year, according to the police department’s latest weekly Compstat report. That’s up from six homicides in the city at this point last year.

New Haven police plan to hold a press conference on Monday and provide additional information about Friday’s arrest..
