Patagonia Coming To Broadway Corner

Yale has found a new store for its marquee spot at the corner of York Street and Broadway: A Patagonia outlet.

Yale’s local real estate arm issued a release Thursday afternoon announcing that the ribbon will be cut next Thursday at the new outdoor clothing and gear store at 1 Broadway.

Since booting the popular Au Bon Pain eatery four years ago in hopes of upscaling the Broadway shopping district’s prime spot, Yale has struggled to find a successful tenant for that spot. Finally it gave up for a while on retail and put in a temporary home for a Peabody museum outpost until a new chain outlet could be found.

Denali, a locally owned outdoor store, will operate the new Patagonia outlet. Denali will move across the street from its current Broadway location to be combined into an existing store, Trailblazer at 296 Elm, which is also run by Denali’s Chris Howe and partners Todd Raskin and David Venables.

Patagonia’s official grand opening bash is set for Saturday, Sept. 9. The company will donate 20 percent of revenues that day to green local not-for-profits Common Gorund, Connecticut Fund for the Environment, Solar Youth, New Haven Land Trust, and Urban Resources Initiative.

The Patagonia chain is based in Ventura, California.
