The truck that hit a pedestrian at Orange and Elm.
A beer delivery truck struck and injured a 41-year-old pedestrian downtown Wednesday morning.
Police blocked off the intersection of Elm Street and Orange Street with yellow caution tape at around 11:30 a.m.
At noon, a truck — bearing the image of a Miller Lite beer can as well as the UConn logo — remained parked on the southern side of Elm Street, just east of the intersection.
The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, said that he was driving south on Orange Street, and was turning left (east) on Elm.
“I had the green light,” the driver said. He said he didn’t see the pedestrian crossing Elm Street until it was too late. “I’m nervous,” the driver said after the crash.
Police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart confirmed that a male pedestrian had been hit, reportedly suffered “minor injuries,” and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation.
He said that video footage of the incident shows that the truck did indeed have the green light, and that the pedestrian — who was crossing Elm Street — was not in the crosswalk. He said the pedestrian appears to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and is currently receiving scans at the hospital.
