17-Year-old Shot & Injured In Newhallville

City police are investigating a shooting in Newhallville that sent an injured 17-year-old to the hospital.

New Haven police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway described that shooting in an email press release sent out Tuesday morning.

He wrote that, on Monday at around 5:21 p.m., city police received a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Read Street between Winchester Avenue and Newhall Street.

Responding officers were later notified that a 17-year-old New Havener who had been shot had walked into the St. Raphael’s hospital on Chapel Street seeking treatment for his injury. He was then taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital on York Street, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203 – 946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1 – 866-888-TIPS(8477), or text NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES).

Also, over the weekend, Hamden Police spokesperson Sean Dolan sent out email press releases about two separate shootings that left two different people injured in Hamden.

The first shooting took place on Saturday at around 10:00 p.m., when Hamden police officers responded to the area of Butler Street and Goodrich Street on multiple reports of shots fired.”

Police found ballistic evidence in the street and surrounding area,” and also found a 37-year-old gunshot victim inside of her Butler Street residence.

The preliminary investigation revealed that she was struck by a bullet that penetrated the wall of her house,” Dolan wrote. It does not appear that she was the intended target of the shooting.” 

The gunshot victim was treated on scene and and then transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Hamden police are calling on anyone with information or video surveillance of the incident to contact Det. Jay Bunnell at 203 – 230-4045 or [email protected]. Any information provided can remain confidential.

The second shooting took place on Saturday at around 10:30 p.m., when Hamden police officers responded to Warner Street for a reported shooting. The officers found a 39-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The gunshot victim was treated on scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with critical injuries,” Dolan wrote.
