Post-Texas Pro-Choice Call: Look To Congress

My understanding of SCOTUS's ruling is that the 5 to 4 "decision" not to block the new Texas law is because the petitioners didn't follow the correct legal challenges."... the abortion providers who had challenged the law in an emergency application to the court had not made their case in the face of "complex and novel" procedural questions. The majority stressed that it was not ruling on the constitutionality of the Texas law and did not mean to limit "procedurally proper challenges" to it." People have known for decades that Roe v. Wade was a court decision that could be overturned at any time and that federal legislation was needed.
Well, decades later, nothing has been done.
So now that you have Supreme Court judges pledged to overturn Roe, don't look to the courts for relief.
The most effective organizing group every was ACT UP. They saw friends and family dying of AIDS and had no patience for bureaucratic delays in getting life saving drugs approved. They literally shut the government down, lobbied each and every legislator and followed up with successful boycotts years later.

Voting makes a difference in all our rights. There are challenges to voters rights, women's access to healthcare, and all sorts of civil rights are under threat by conservative right wing politicians who are thrilled that the last president loaded all of the federal courts with right leaning conservative judges.
Who you elect to legislative and executive branches of political office impacts who is put into the judicial branches of government, and what laws are made and upheld.
So vote in every election, educate yourself on the candidates views, track record, and experiences, and make yourself heard at every opportunity to influence accountability from our government branches. Don't let the vocal minority, the power hungry politicians, the lobbyist and special interests, or the corporations get away with ignoring the needs and wishes of the citizens that they represent. Speak with your voice, your vote and your pocketbook.

Alex Rose, technically, yes. Yet, under existing precedents, in particular Casey, the Texas law is blatantly unconstitutional. Remember, Roberts voted to block its enforcement.

Patricia Kane, yes, Roe was always on shaky legal ground. Politically, Roe short-circuited a democratic process that was slowly broadening a right to abortion. Roe overturned centuries of legal precedent and tradition, with little textual basis. Under Doe v. Bolton, it is breathtakingly absolute in its scope, allowing third trimester abortions for the financial and emotional health of the mother.

It would be nice if women and liberal cartoonists were this fervent about birth control and personal responsibility. I am still waiting for New Haven, Hartford, Chicago, San Francisco etc... to become that model utopia we should all follow.

The Pro-choice folks may find themselves hoist on their own petard regarding Congressional action. In the past, pro-choice forces have argued that courts, not Congress, should legislate abortion rights, and opposed Congressional measures to regulate abortion by saying it was a matter for the federal courts.
