Schools Reopen Thursday

CIty Hall sent out the following post-Superstorm Sandy updates mid-day Wednesday:

• The public schools, which have closed so far all week, will reopen on Thursday.

UI’s reporting 4,409 New Haven customers still in the dark. (Another 2,000 may be showing up in neighboring towns’ tallies.)

• At least 17 streets remain blocked off.

• Still no traffic signals at 29 intersections.

• Reopened today: City Hall, libraries, senior centers.

• Trash pick-up has resumed with one-day delays (Tuesday trash picked up Wednesday, etc.)

• People can put bagged yard debris — branches and leaves — out for curbside collection starting Friday. Branches must be less than four feet in length or they will not fit into the refuse truck. The City cannot pick up trees cut down by private contractors,” the City Hall press release stated. Or as Mayor DeStefano put it at a Tuesday press conference: Yard debris is not your garage that you decided to take down. Or three trees you decided to take down.”

• Report downed trees & wires and other storm-related problems at 203 – 946-8221.
