Symphony Gets $50,000 From State

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra has received $50,000 from the State of Connecticut for its 2016 – 17 fiscal year; the budget was signed on June 30. Through this funding the NHSO will offer free admission for adults and children to its 2016 and 2017 Family Concert Series. Also, through the symphony’s KidTix program, children under the age of 18 can attend all NHSO concerts free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult.

The NHSO reaches 80,000 audience members each year and 30,000 children will benefit from our 220 concerts and education programs, which are offered in conjunction with 42 Connecticut school districts,” said NHSO Executive Director Elaine Carroll in a press release.

I am excited to support NHSO and their community programming,” the same release quoted New Haven State Rep. Pat Dillon as saying. NHSO’s commitment to providing access to the arts for all families regardless of income is a noble endeavor. The Davis School series” — in which the Symphony put on a series of concerts at New Haven’s K‑8 Davis Street Arts and Academics School—“was a well-attended success.”

From January to March, the NHSO presents three family concerts at Davis Street School and Shelton Intermediate School in Shelton. There is also an Instrument Discovery Zone set up in the lobbies before the concerts, where kids can touch and try out orchestral instruments.
