This year’s Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) annual fundraiser will benefit three regional social service providers that support children, the homeless, and those struggling with addiction.
Representatives of two of those nonprofits came on Wednesday’s “Municipal Voice” program on WNHH to talk about the upcoming charity event, called the CT Charity Triple Crown, and about the work that they do.
The three organizations that will receive money from this year’s fundraiser are the Parent Child Resource Center (PCRC), the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR), and Journey Home.
The event takes place at the Hartford Club on Friday, May 10, and is open to the general public. It is the second year that this charity event has supported three different organizations. Last year saw $40,000 going to Channel 3 Kids Camp, Homes for the Brave, and The Village from live and silent auctions and sponsorships.
The Parent Child Resource Center is a division of BH Care, specializing in the treatment of children with severe emotional and behavioral health issues. Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery is a community of care that aims to eliminate the stigma around addiction and provide care for those who suffer from addiction. Journey Home works with businesses and communities to end homelessness in the Hartford area.
With the Triple Crown platform, these organizations are able to speak about the work they do to a sometimes new and larger audience.
“I’m just excited to get the parent child resource center services what we do talk about what we do and get that out there,” said Sarah Beard, the director of clinical services at PCRC. “I think that it’s so important to have these conversations and to let folks know the services we have because when people are in a crisis, its hard to navigate, so it’s good to have these conversations and talk more openly about what’s out there for everyone.”
Michael Askew, the director of recovery a at CCAR, agreed. “I think one of the things the community doesn’t recognize is the magnitude of work that goes into helping communities through nonprofits like us,” he said, “and the many people that are passionate, that goes along with what we do.”
This is the crux of events like the Triple Crown. While there will be food and entertainment, and the chance to take home excellent auction items, the most important thing to remember is that these organizations do have a mission — to make Connecticut a better place for everyone.
